THE FISH GUYS

When JR Shute and Pat Rakes go fishing, they’re not looking for bass or trout. They use very small nets to collect madtoms, and diamond darters, some of the minnow-size fish that are on the verge of extinction. They have 600 tanks full of imperiled fish. The fish that Pat and JR are working with, will never make the headlines, but they are key players in a freshwater eco-system, that can ill-afford to lose anything else.

Recently on the program, Dick talked with Joyce Wadler. Joyce is a New York Times reporter who was to sleep on - and then review - a mattress that cost $50,000. That story prompted another mattress tale from a listener in Plattsburgh, New York.
ALL ALONE
Victor Vangelakos is a firefighter from New Jersey who bought a condo in South Florida as the real estate market was collapsing. For the past couple of years, Victor's family were the only people living in a 32-story condo high rise. Victor recently he had a chance to face the building owner for the first time.
THEIR OWN TORAH
Tonight at sundown, Jewish families will gather to light the first candle of the menorah for Hanukkah. The members of the Kadima Reconstructionist Community in Seattle have much to celebrate - their very own Torah, and the first one in the world created entirely by female scribes as part of the Women's Torah Project.
