Gold Rush
The volatile economy has forced many people out of their jobs, and still more to look for new ways of making money. Earlier this year, Dave and Carrie found themselves laid off. At the time, gold was fetching over $1,000 an ounce. So they moved out to a remote canyon in northern California and started life anew - as gold miners.
Their families think they're crazy. But the rush of discovering gold nuggets and flakes is just part of the luster. As they tell Dick Gordon, they sleep under the stars, work their own hours and they say they're in the best physical condition of their lives. Even when gold prices fluctuate, there's still plenty to keep them prospecting.

Brian Ward
Around the time of the 2000 election, Brian Ward thought that it might be funny to sell his vote on eBay as an act of political satire. So he set up an auction, and he went home for the evening. The next morning, a coworker pointed out that his auction was the main story on CNN.com, and then he got a call from the Federal Election Commission ... and then another, this one from the Attorney General's office.
