Judy Davids was also given a pink slip after working with one company for 17 years. Judy is skilled in computer-assisted design, but not many firms are hiring these days. So, Judy turned to new technology. She logged on to Facebook to network with her town mayor.

The mayor, knowing Judy was in a weekend band with other moms, responded that he didn't know of any jobs, but that "rock and roll never dies." Judy thought that was the stupidest thing she'd ever heard: she typically made $12.50 per gig. But it turned out to be the start of a new business.
