Best of The Story

When The Story with Dick Gordon went on the air in 2006, the show's goal was simple: tell the remarkable personal stories of people in the news and people nowhere near it. Some of our favorite stories and storytellers include Luci Baines Johnson, daughter of Lyndon Johnson, recalling her time as a teenager in the White House; two women who worked for years at a chicken packaging plant; and a man who survived a tussle with a grizzly bear. The program, produced by North Carolina Public Radio-WUNC, was picked up early on by stations as large as WBEZ in Chicago, and since then, listeners from coast to coast have heard Dick Gordon's conversations with people about their first-person experiences. As the program prepares to go off the air, we’ve culled the archives for some of the most memorable stories and storytellers of The Story, and collected them in this series.
