Educating Rodrigo

Here's a quick tip on how to set your news prediction guide for 2007. Top international story: Iraq. Top domestic story: immigration. Today's story is one that brings those two issues together.

Rodrigo Ximeno and his mother Marianela Manana moved to the US from Uruguay for work and an education.

To their surprise, Rodrigo didn't fit in with other Latino kids. Soon he dropped out of school, ran the streets with gang members and got into trouble with the law.

Dick talks to them about how a military school in North Carolina changed Rodrigo's life and gave Marianela her son back.

Dear Mom:

Today is Saturday September 30th and it was not a good day for me. I got into a fight with another cadet, but I don't care about that.  I only care about you. I would like to let you know that I love you with all my heart. I know that I gave you a hard time during my life, and that sometimes I used bad words with you, but I love you with all my soul and I don't know what I could do without you.

Rodrigo now wants to join the military--against his mother's wishes.
