Maryanne Kamau has been on the phone to Kenya almost constantly since violence broke out there after the December 27 elections. She has a large extended family in the region around Eldoret, where some of the worst violence has taken place.
Early in the morning on December 31, a cousin and nephew of hers were hacked to death outside of the family farm in Turbo. A couple of days later, the family home was looted and burned. Now Maryanne is working with her cousins and siblings in the U.S., Canada, and Kenya to account for family members and get them to safety.
Dick Gordon talks with Maryanne, and her cousin Peter Kamau Waweru in Kenya, about how their family is dealing with the crisis.
Christine Toole had a best friend named Chris when she was in her 20's. They did everything together, and Chris was the kind of man who was always more than ready to help a friend. Christine and Chris shared poetry, they went to concerts, and they talked and laughed with each other for hours.
A kiss changed all of that. Christine talks to Dick Gordon about her friendship with Chris, and how much he taught her about forgiveness and life.
