Death Row Minister

For 15 years Reverend Carroll Pickett worked as a prison chaplain. He walked 95 inmates at the "Walls" prison unit in Huntsville, Texas to their executions.

He was also present at the nation's first lethal injection. Reverend Pickett talks with Dick Gordon about the inmate who changed his view of the death penalty and why he now believes lethal injection is wrong.

During his years as a chaplain, Reverend Pickett recorded his thoughts about the executions on cassette tapes. Peter Gilbert, who made a film with Steve James about Reverend Pickett's experiences, also joins Dick to talk about how he and Steve got Reverend Pickett to open up about the tapes.
