Forty years ago, Mark Cohen moved to Kenya with his wife and toddler in order to complete his doctoral research in archeology. He spent time surveying archeological sites on foot and coming nose-to-nose with African wildlife. That approach, he says in retrospect, was naïve and stupid. He didn't realize it then until he got chewed out by a young woman in a Land Rover named Jane Goodall. The next day, Mark realized what a good idea it was to take Jane's advice.
