The Cost of College

THE COST OF COLLEGE

When the writer Andrew Ferguson started looking into college for his son, he discovered that other parents had spent years putting together "brag sheets," listing anything that might impress someone in the admissions office. He says that he knew at that moment that he (and his son) were way, way behind in the game.

ACCEPTED

Brendan Attridge is a high school senior in Boston. He was recently accepted to college, and no one was more surprised than Brendan. A critical decision to change schools, and one special song, turned him in the right direction.

AND THEN, THE DEBT

Risha Nathan took out loans to cover college and grad school. She now owes $150,000. Now, even with a full time job as a social worker, Risha is not able to afford to pay her loans and her rent, so she has to babysit 4-5 nights a week.

Twister Touchdown

This weekend, a tornado touched down on the campus of Shaw University in Raleigh, N.C. Sophomore Julius Stukes Jr. grabbed a video camera to document the destruction. His best friend Nathan Weeks feels lucky he survived. The damage was severe enough that university officials have decided to cancel classes for the rest of the year.
