Harvesting Without Workers

Even before the strict new immigration law in Alabama passed, Latinos began leaving the state. That left many farmers like Ellen Jenkins in the lurch. She had acres of tomatoes and no crew to help her pick and clean the fields. Now she’s getting help from a program matching unemployed people in Alabama to farm jobs. The results are mixed.
