Ice And Polar Bears

Adventurer Jon Turk (left) talks to Dick about a trip he took last summer to the Canadian Arctic. He set out to kayak and walk on Ellesmere Island, a rugged land of towering mountains, vast ice fields, and a deeply indented coastline. Learning how to read the ice was crucial so he and his partner did not get trapped, he says. Being able to look a bear in the eye and display dominance was also important, he says, but if he saw a walrus the only solution was to "paddle!"
