Barry Goldwater And The 1964 Republican Primary

When Sen. Rick Santorum suspended his campaign this week, he cleared the way for Gov. Mitt Romney to claim the Republican nomination for president. It has been a contest not unlike the party's 1964 race.

Dick speaks with Bill Middendorf (right in photo), the campaign treasurer for 1964 Republican nominee Barry Goldwater (left). Middendorf saw roaring crowds, off-the-cuff speeches, and dirty tricks from opposing teams.
