A Private Astronaut

Richard Garriott is one of the few people with an idea of how it would have felt to fly in the Space Shuttle Discovery. Garriott, who made a fortune designing computer games, self-funded a flight in 2008 to the International Space Station, where he spent 12 days. He co-founded a company called Zero Gravity Corp., and now he’s helping design another form of space tourism: sky diving. He wants to launch people in rockets to space, where they can jump out for a long fall back to land.
