There is a weekly newspaper column written by an Old Order Amish mother of 8, Lovina Eicher. Before Lovina, her mother wrote the column. Eicher writes about rhubarb crumble, onions, dressmaking, her church, and her community's weddings and births. Each column ends with a recipe. The column was created in 1991 by a non-Amish man named Kevin Williams. He tells The Story's Phoebe Judge how he convinced this Amish family to write about themselves, and the trouble of making a newspaper column without electricity.
