Guest host Sean Cole sits down with NPR foreign correspondent Kelly McEvers to learn more about her recent trip with Syrian rebels. She says the rebels tried to control what information was available to her, not unlike the way in which the Syrian government controls reporters. Still, in quiet moments, she says she was able to understand some of the thoughts of Syrian fighters and citizens. She describes one rebel leader who lost his father in an earlier government crackdown in Hama and has been seeking revenge for years. He sold his businesses and is using the money for the civil war.
