Hell Is So Green

In 1944, William Diebold was flying over the jungles of Burma on a mission to rescue downed pilots. When he returned home, he could never quite find the same glory.

He began to drink, his marriages fell apart, and he died young in 1965, never telling his family about his heroism during the war.  Forty-seven years after his death, his daughter finally published his memoir, Hell Is So Green: Search and Rescue over the Hump in World War II.
