Singing Cuba’s History

Before she became a singer, Ivette Cepeda wanted to follow in her mother and grandmother’s path: she became a teacher and taught elementary school children math. Now, Cepeda is a celebrated performer of Cuban jazz, boleros and bossa nova. In this conversation, she performs famous songs from her island and tells host Dick Gordon that whether she’s in a classroom or on a stage, she feels inspired to teach.
