The Peaches At Bat: The All American Girls Baseball League

Produced by
BBC World Service

In our first broadcast of the BBC World Service’s program Witness, we hear about the creation of the All-American Girls Professional Baseball League, which was set up to ensure that the sport survived the years of World War II, when so many men were being drafted into the military. Reporter Rebecca Kesby meets one of the players who sings about those great times, and her anthem is not “Take Me Out to the Ballgame.”

Music

"Pussy Willow" by Duke Ellington
