Gore Vidal on America

The late writer Gore Vidal speaks to interviewer Studs Terkel in 1961. He knew John F. Kennedy, and they often discussed the great intellectuals of American history. Vidal says our founding leaders always felt that there was nothing they couldn’t do. He says this spirit has been diminished. He says the function of art is to help people break out from the restrictions and prisons they put themselves in.
